About
Hey! Welcome to my website! My name is Alejandro Laguna, but everyone tends to call me Alex. I am on my third year studying Computer Science at the European Institute of Technology (Barcelona Campus)
I am poking around this whole field of software engineering for a couple of years now, and I haven’t found my place yet. However, I am currently enjoying systems programming and working on some math stuff with functional programming.
Why this site exists?
If you have ever heard anything about {Epitech}, you probably are aware of how weird the path of any student there has been. It is a really unconventional university. They simply throw projects at us with not a single lecture and a “figure it out yourself” mentality. Don’t get me wrong, struggling and smashing your head against a wall until the code compiles is great and I love that so much. It really is a great way of learning.
Unfortunately, there is a (not so small) catch.
A part from being a student, I am also a Teaching Assistant for first and second years. This has made me realize that dropping people into the deep and without a compass simply creates programmers who can write code that works and that they will forget about it in a few weeks and they, or should I say “us”, have no clue on why it works, we don’t understand it. I personally miss a bit of “applied theory”. I believe it helps us fix those gaps.
So, that is what this site is for. It’s my personal archive. A place where I attempt to document the math and other theory I am attempting to learn, and then write guides so we can both learn - you from reading it, me from having to actually understand it well enough to write it down.
Away from the keyboard
I am not always programming, not because I don’t want to, but simply because it isn’t healthy, and those breaks allow me to code better after. I enjoy reading, a lot. Some writing here and there as well. And when I am completely burned out, you’ll find me at the pool, doing some exhausting sprint sets. It’s basically the only time my brain actually shuts off.

“I couldn’t reduce it to the freshman level. That means we really don’t understand it. If you can’t explain something to a first-year student, then you haven’t really understood it.”
— Richard Feynman
